The Paperwork Removed During the CMA Inspection
What the CMA says — and what this page does not speculate about.

IMPORTANT DISTINCTION
The penalties described on this website concern failures to comply with CMA investigative requirements during an inspection.
The separate CMA investigation into suspected bid-rigging remains ongoing.
The CMA has expressly stated that no assumption should currently be made that competition law has been infringed.
According to the CMA, paperwork was removed from M&J Group's premises during the warranted inspection so that investigators would not find it. The CMA said that Estimating Director Barry Pirrie instructed Office Manager Tracey Woods to remove the paperwork.
The paperwork was returned later the same day.
What the CMA Said
"The CMA said paperwork was removed from the premises so investigators would not find it."
What This Page Does Not Say
This page does not speculate about what the paperwork contained. It does not imply:
- "The documents proved bid-rigging."
- That any specific contract was referenced in the paperwork.
- That the paperwork was destroyed or altered.
The CMA said the paperwork was returned later the same day. The regulator said the temporary concealment risked the loss of relevant information and wasted investigative time and resources.
